So, this weekend, we made a trip to Manhattan. Our very first stop was B&H Photo, as usual (our second stop was Bloomies, while our third was XO Kitchen, a scrumptiously authentic restaurant in Chinatown). But I digress. Anyway, if you haven’t heard of or been to B&H Photo, it’s definitely worth a visit, just for the experience! It’s a total madhouse, which will leave many hyperventilating. They even have little jars of candy throughout the store, which keeps the energy levels surrealistically (is that a word?) high.
We made our way to the bag section and spoke with someone about the pros and cons of an over the shoulder bag. Ah, the man bag…apparently it works in the world of photography! The people who work at B&H are seriously one of a kind. They’re extremely knowledgeable about anything and everything having to do with their section of the store, and they’re also very helpful and patient. I guess you have to be if you’re part of the operation that is B&H.
We didn’t end up buying anything, BUT we did make our way through the check-out section, which is seriously the most efficient system I’ve seen in place. It might just beat Wal-Mart’s oh-so-famous distribution centers. When you order something at the counter, they click a button in the computer, give you a receipt, and somehow, when you get to the check-out area to pay, all your stuff is there and ready to be picked up! All thanks to the levies, pullies, and train track-like mechanisms they’ve set up around the store.
If you’re ever in New York and enjoy electronics, photography, or the like….or if you just enjoy partaking in a little elbow-shoving, we highly recommend B&H. It’s certainly a gem, in it’s own sort of way!
