Cherry Blossom 10 Mile Race

About 3 months ago, we got an email about the Cherry Blossom 10 Mile Race in DC.  We were excited to learn about the race since we were already training for a half marathon.  Little did we know, but everyone else was excited about it too!  Registration apparently closed after a couple of days…super fast.  Anyway, I got an email from Georgetown announcing that there would be a team from the business school running, so I immediately signed us up.  Seemed like things would work out in the end. I got two t-shirts.  We were all set.  So it seemed.

Cut to Sunday morning…6:15am.  It was time to go.  We jumped in the car and headed to DC.  Unfortunately, when we got there, we found out that we were not on any list. We thought we were registered (given the emails we’d gotten and the t-shirts), but apparently we weren’t.  Total bummer, mainly since we genuinely thought we had been registered.  We decided to run regardless, though, and jumped into one of the corrals.  We were able to run, and though it was a bit exhausting given the long day we had  before (my feet hurt before we had even started running – never a good sign), it was still loads of fun.  There were tons of tourists at the beginning and end cheering us on.  And the trees were magnificent. DC is one of the most beautiful places to run, as the course goes through tons of streets and crosses a number of monuments, which add to the whole experience.

We definitely are running in the Cherry Blossom 10 miler next year. Thanks to all the volunteers and organizers.  Without them, it would not have been such a big success. Still wondering why we were not on the list. Hmmm…

Spring is in the air.  -k
