5 min is all you need, trust me on that …

5min

There are so many DIY websites like eHow.com, DoItYourself.com, HowToDoThings.com etc. 5min is yet another DIY website, so the question is what is so special about 5min which other websites don’t offer. There are few cool features, let me list them for you:

  • It’s all videos, which is very very valuable as it actually demonstrates how to do something
  • All videos are less than 5 minutes
  • They have something called a Smart Player which has some cool features like slow motion, zoom in and out and also supports text and links

It’s  more of an instructional website than a DIY. If you have a skill which results in something then you can contribute to the website. They do have a rating system like all other websites to rate the best videos as a quick search on “how to change a diaper” got me like 22 results. It is cool that there are 22 different ways of changing a diaper but I don’t think so. It would be cool if they kept tabs on that so that a viewer doesn’t feel like he has to see all 22 videos to learn how to change a diaper. Which means 22 * 5min = 110 min, which is almost 2 hrs of “how to change a diaper”. I guess by that time it will be in my muscle memory and I would be able to change a diaper with my eyes closed.

Bottom line the site looks nifty and definitely my “how to” source in future. Take a look.
