Since we’ve moved across the Potomac to Northern Virginia, we haven’t had a chance to venture out to one of our favorite DC spots in quite a while. Yesterday, we were reunited once again! Ah, the bliss, the excitement, the pushing, the shoving, and the expressions of pure satisfaction. The Maine Avenue Fish Market, located in Southwest DC, is one of a kind. It’s got the charm, the smell, the chaos, the history, and the grit of any seafood market you might find in East/Southeast Asia. And, their oysters (if you’re into slimy, raw fish) are to die for. Actually, the whole experience of watching them pry open the oysters and clams with a rubber glove on one hand and some crazy sharp oyster knife in the other is worth the trip. Below are some pictures from our mini-foodie adventure. I think we may actually be what Anthony Bourdain refers to as “food nerds”. No shame in that. I’m all for geekifying the culinary world. Mmmmmm…
