Michael Kors Talks DC Fashion

So, I came across an interview with Michael Kors recently, touching on the DC fashion scene, which some would say is nonexistent.  Washington is certainly not known for its stylish vibe (despite this new-found obsession with all things J-Crew and cardigan…both of which I adore, but wouldn’t consider cutting-edge).  We’ll save that award for NYC, Paris, and Tokyo.  But, DC is going through a sort of aesthetic evolution as of late.  Funk and flare are gradually finding their way into fashion and design here, which is very exciting.  Kors explains that women in the nation’s capital and its surrounding areas, in particular, are increasingly torn between wanting to present themselves as professional, career-driven, and ambitious while also adding some intrigue to their ensembles.  So, goes the dilemma.  Fortunately, he, along with several other amazing designers, has several stores in the area and women are now able to more easily combine classy with trendy at the office.  His solution is what he refers to as “sporty glamor”.  Love this concept.  Brilliant.  Not that his clothing is universally affordable by any means, but I appreciate his emphasis on practicality and accessibility.  The blending of edgy and traditional at its finest – exactly how we at KP define our own style!  If you’re interested in seeing what he has to offer, check out his store at Tysons Galleria.

Happy Fashionable Friday!
