We presume, since you clicked on this, that you’d like to know a little about us. Well, there’s a lot to tell and not much space, so we’ll try to be as succinct as possible.
We’re a husband and wife photography team and have a soft spot for people and special occasion. We find great joy not only in shooting weddings, but in the traditional and cultural aspect as well. It may sound cliché, but no two weddings are exactly alike. And that’s what we love about our work! We’ve traveled and observed a lot over the past 10 years and, because of that, bring a certain amount of curiosity and insight to every wedding that we cover. We also strive to bring flexibility, creativity, discreteness, and professionalism to our shoots.
You may ask what’s unique about our style. We like to think of ourselves as photojournalists in that we take an edgy, non-traditional, and candid approach to shooting weddings - from start to finish. That’s not to say that we won’t cover the standard posed shots; those are certainly part of our repertoire. But, we also spend a great deal of time capturing the raw and spontaneous moments that often end up defining the wedding, those moments that the bride and groom may not even know about, but will surely appreciate days, months, and years later. We’re also happy to cover engagement and portrait sessions, which tend to be quite relaxed and fun. We feel they’re a wonderful way for us to get to know the couple before their big day. Not to mention, it’s a great way for the couple to get to know us and our technique and style at the same time. Well, obviously!

We are soo excited to be heading down to Vegas for the annual WPPI convention from March 5-10. We will still have email and phone access in-case you need us. We might not be able to respond to your emails or calls at the speed you are used to from us. If it’s an emergency then please leave us a voicemail while shouting and also shoot us an email at the same time with all CAPS. This will surely get our attention. We are hoping to come back with new product offerings by Khanna Photography. In the meantime do take good care of yourself and the special one in your life.
So, for those of you who don’t live in DC, Baltimore, or Philly, you may not have experienced this recent “batch” of snow first-hand. BUT, I’m sure you’ve heard about it. Probably too much, you’re thinking. Apparently, we’re now part of history. Which means I guess I should revise my last post mocking (albeit in jest, I promise!) the total snow paralysis in the nation’s capital. This winter’s snow totals are the highest they’ve ever been. And yesterday, though it didn’t snow, oh, 32 inches, like it did over the weekend, it was blustery and windy…with another 10 inches of snow thrown in for kicks!
Anyway, like many around here, G and I seem to have caught a horrible case of cabin fever. We’ve been eating and drinking like none other, not surprisingly. Pacing up and down the stairs. Watching television incessantly. And admiring the beauty of the snow with camera in tow. So, today, rather than whip out the Nikons and shoot the great outdoors, which would be just a tad cliche at this point, we opted for a photo shoot of everyday life in the Khanna household. Quite frankly, it’s kind of refreshing trying to find intrigue in the most boring of objects, objects that we use and look at on a daily basis. That reminds me, if you haven’t seen the documentary, “Objectified”, we recommend it!
Because we live in northern Virginia, we also missed out on the second massive snowball fight that took place in Dupont Circle. Would have been fun! We love a good snowball fight and have thought about organizing a community-wide one. But, alas, even the usually adventurous kids seem to be hunkering down in their homes.
Is it really just the beginning of February? At least it’s a short month, right? And the Winter Olympics are here! Go Vonn! Just trying to stay positive.
Trudy-Whatever! These images are not mundane, they are art in their own right and would do well in some really artistic catalogues. I love the mixer and the blackberry/iphone shot.
A true artist can display just about anything as art and you seem to have that down pat.
I love snow! I honestly do. I’m a California native and, though I grew up 20 minutes from the beach, I also have very fond memories of family ski trips to Lake Tahoe and Yosemite. And, I lived in Colorado for a year where, it goes without saying, people live for the snow. So, I welcome an occasional blizzard with open arms.
It’s funny because, as much as I love the quirky, sensation-seeking, eccentricity of the nation’s capital and its surrounding areas, people around here make an unnecessarily big deal about the snow. I mean, a massive deal. As if the world has come to the end. And, gasp, for a moment, there’s no political bickering or brilliant K street madness or protests for and against the cause du jour. It’s ALL about the pretty white stuff. I won’t refer to today’s storm as “snowpocalypse” because that now seems to be completely over-used. But that probably is the best way to describe it. I wonder what people in Buffalo are saying right now. They’re likely chuckling inside.
On Thursday evening, we decided to hit the stores to do some shopping. Whole Foods was a total disaster. As was Trader Joe’s. The aisles were packed, the shelves were empty. You’d think an asteroid was about to hit. And because Will Smith is in L.A., there may be no hope for us, or mankind for that matter. I guess it doesn’t help that the Super Bowl is tomorrow. So, on top of stocking up on bread, milk, and toilet paper (go figure), people felt the need to indulge in a little Sunday booze and wings prep at the same time, probably thinking they wouldn’t be able to leave their homes for days. Which could quite possibly happen. What did we buy? Ribs and wine. The essentials, clearly.
Anyway, the snow, as beautiful as it is, is still coming down. In fact, it’s blowing horribly. The roads aren’t plowed. And, rather than try to play hero in the X3 in this so-called “monster” storm, we put on the snow gear, minus the goggles this time (BIG mistake), and walked a full 15 minutes to 7-Eleven. Just for the fun of it. Now that we’re back, I’m tempted to put on my skis and shred it up. Oh wait, there are no mountains here. Or make-shift slopes. Or even snow drifts with the potential for a little cafeteria tray action. Ah well. A day inside it will have to be!
Cheers to fully embracing the white stuff.
P.S. Truly fascinating how determined the forecasters are to break records…makin’ history, people! Makin’ history.
Oh, and this was written yesterday, but posted today. Weather update – clear skies, glacially frigid, and very limited road access. Sigh…

We are in the process of replacing one of our cars. We pretty much have decided which car we want to buy but when Kyra told that she has to go to Georgetown on Saturday, I jumped on the opportunity to see some other comparable cars. It’s soo much better to look at the cars side by side without the sales guy shoving features/specs down your throat and treating you as if you don’t know anything. The auto show wasn’t too packed as there was probably 4 inches of snow outside and DC drivers are not too comfortable driving in snow. I had all the time to compose and take some cool shots. Hope you like them.
This one is on our way back. I 66 was backed up due to accident so we tried to get on GW parkway, but that was closed as well. You can see the cop car blocking the road.

Okay, so it’s not what you’re thinking…at least not yet.BUT, we recently bought a Fuji Film Instant Camera (aka the Instax Mini 7S) and it arrived today! Woohoo! Not sure if any of you remember that thing called the “Polaroid”? Think glamazon head shots. Well, this is similar, but the pictures are slightly smaller. The camera itself is still funky-looking, in a good way, but sleeker. Some of the features include:
Fujinon Lens – f=60mm
Electronic Shutter 1/60 sec
Auto Flash in low light, auto adjust
Manual exposure compensation
Image Size: 2.13″ x 3.4″
Clearly, we’ve already been having fun with it. Don’t get me wrong, this definitely won’t replace the masterful Polariod. Which is actually coming back…and, not only on E-Bay. But, it boasts the same benefits of fun and immediacy. The film is ridiculously expensive, of course, so we’ve been very conservative with our so-called practice shots.

P.S. – Not sure what the appropriate transition is here, but on a much more serious note, our hearts and prayers go out to the victims of the Haiti Earthquake, as well as to their families. If you’re interested in making a charitable contribution, just text HAITI to 90999. Your $10 donation will go directly to the American Red Cross. Every little bit counts.
Winter weddings are so much fun, especially when there’s still snow on the ground from snow storms that dump 2 feet of pretty, white fluffy stuff. Makes for a beautiful back-drop. We covered Julia and Chad’s post-Christmas wedding last Sunday. The ceremony took place at a gorgeous church in Silver Spring, MD and was followed by a reception at the Washington Hebrew Congregation. We had never covered an event at the WHC and what a lovely surprise it was! Super contemporary and open with high ceilings. It almost felt like a modern, loft-like gallery you’d find in Manhattan. Anyway, we had such a wonderful time shooting Julia and Chad’s festive and energy-filled wedding and wish them all the best in the coming year. Also, be on the look-out for some post-wedding portraits in January!
Happy New Year from KP! Cheers to an outstanding 2010! Peace.
